Mardi Gras Father/Daughter dance dubbed the best one in years.
I thought that dealing with massive amounts of near boiling liquid would intimidate me, but it didn't. I made it clear to Seth and Arwen not to touch the coffee urns in the kitchen because they were extremely HOT and could BURN them badly. I don't pussyfoot around when putting the proper amount of fear into my children.
After the dance started, a man passed by our table with his coffee cup and said to the father beside me serving, "This stuff is nasty." Why am I printing this? Because I'm certain that in my anxiety to please, my imagination got away from me, and no decent man would say this to the people serving. If it is true, I can only hope that he wakes in a sweat in the middle of the night at what a thoughtless comment he made.
All went smoothly. My beverage/food partner, Carrie, did a great job on the rice and beans and the beignets. We also had a popcorn machine. Everyone was happy. The girls were really letting lose by the end, even though the mint juleps were virgin. One of the mothers quoted a father saying, "This is his ninth Father/Daughter Girl Scout dance and he was raving about how well organized the dance was. He loved the theme and the appropriate decorations and activities. He said the the troop did an excellent job...."
I started on the cafe au lait as my headache was coming back and, surprise! 3 kids knockin' on door, actually, 4 kids. Somehow we acquired another!
So far:
~ equal parts brewed chicory and milk
~ 1heaping tsp. sugar per 6 oz. serving
Coffee pot makes 10-6 oz. servings.
Should need 50 pot servings for 100 people.
Coming together, relaxing a bit.
Coming out of a three day headache, btwn today and tomorrow, I have to make 6 gallons of chicory cafe au lait, 14 gallons virgin mint juleps, and 20 cups of rice. 200 people to feed at the Girl Scout Father/Daughter Dance (Mardi Gras themed this year!). I will be mortified if they hate it. So it made perfect sense to go birthday shopping today, pour moi. I love February. Truly.
